They kept me there for three months! People who had attempted suicide were let out within weeks and me who was just nilly depressed was told I would never be able to leave. Once the insurance ran out they discharged me. Dr. Desai is a horrible woman. She prescribed me massive doses of everything she could think of. If you refused to take medications she would order haldol shots which at extremely painful! I would sue if I had the rage still inside me. 5 years later and I don't take any medication and I do not suffer from any mental illness. I was literally there for thirty minutes and she said well youre bipolar and have to stay here forever. If you love your child don't send them here.

Horrible, horrible place. This place should be shut down. My mother spent several months here and it is tragic what the patients at these facilities endure on a daily basis. The governor and the legislature of the State of Mississippi do not see the value of providing adequate funding for proper staffing levels and for maintaining the facilities. Most of the buildings on this campus should be condemned and demolished. If it was THEIR family members who needed these facilities, I can guarantee you the governor and the state legislature would think differently about funding.

I was hospitalized here for schizophrenia in 2017 for about a month. I was already stablized when I arrived at the facility, though, so I don't know about that part of it. The facility was great for the cost (which is nothing). The shower is hot and the food quite good. My only complaint is that I was severely undermedicated and suffered from hearing voices so loudly and brainracking that my speech stuttered and slurred. They wouldn't give me anything for it so I just suffered through it and left there half-brainwashed and outside of myself, but, I survived.

I see what looks to be a pleasant, well kept, and peaceful hospital on the first page. However, it is a far cry from it. Up close? It looks like something out of a horror movie, and the treatment you receive there is the same . All of the patient rights you read about? Do not exist there. To summarize? It is a prison hospital.

I have forgotten how long ago I worked at Ms. State Hospital. When I went to my first day with patients I was terrified. I made it thru the first week to the next all the time being very wary. The nursing supervisor worked on my bldg, she was very supportive, friendly, and we became best of friends. Occasionally I would be "pulled" to other bldgs, again that was frightening. Eventually I just learned the procedure and went on about my business. My bldg soon closed down and I got transferred to the women's alcohol and drug bldg. I quit a year or so after that.
